14th Annual
April 2nd - 4th 2027
The goal of the Southeastern Biogeochemistry Symposium (SBS) is to bring together early career scientists - undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers - within the interdisciplinary fields of geobiology and biogeochemistry for a weekend of scientific presentations, informal discussions, and networking. We welcome researchers conducting work in the fields of Ecology, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Marine Sciences, Microbiology, Plant and Soil Sciences, and more. Registration is free and travel awards are available.

SBS 2027 will be the 14th iteration of SBS, an event that was founded at the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2014. Each year, SBS is organized by a graduate student committee and features a keynote speaker, oral and poster presentations by early career researchers, discussion opportunities, and presentation evaluation and awards. Though the goals of this conference have remained the same since its founding, SBS has steadily grown since its inception in 2014.
Graduate students from UGA’s Department of Marine Sciences hosted SBS in 2017, where they welcomed 19 universities to the symposium, which consisted of a keynote address given by Dr. Jennifer Macaldy, 24 oral presentations, and 70 poster presentations. We are excited to see SBS return to UGA 10 years after it was first hosted in the Classic City.
