From the Forbidden Forest to the Black Lake: Microbial Magic in Carbon Cycling
Dr. Harry Potter is a Professor in the Department of Magical Biogeochemistry at Hogwarts University, where he leads the Potter Lab for Enchanted Element Cycling. His research explores how microbial communities in the Black Lake drive carbon and nitrogen cycling, with a focus on the unusual magical enzymes produced by bacteria living alongside the lake's resident merpeople and Grindylows. His team combines field sampling, shotgun metagenomics, and potion-based incubation experiments to understand how magical ecosystems respond to environmental change.
Dr. Potter received his B.Sc. from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and his Ph.D. from the University of Godric's Hollow, followed by postdoctoral work at the Ministry of Magic's Department of Magical Ecology. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and received the Merlin Early Career Award in Geobiology. He is a passionate mentor who credits much of his scientific curiosity to a formative, and occasionally dangerous, early education.
